Analyzing Character Growth Throughout a Text

Character analysis covers many things. Students must know character traits, infer subtle character analysis clues, and analyze how a character develops across a text. Teaching these topics often takes several mini lessons and several examples.

Common Core Standard RL.3 addresses character analysis.  I am a huge advocate of closely reading text.  Students should look carefully at clues that contribute to a character's growth.  Advice from another character and overcoming a difficulty are both examples of elements that contribute to character growth.

It includes 38 task cards (that include short stories) to help students determine character traits, analyze characters, and determine how and why characters develop across a text.
