Do your students read but miss the theme or central message of the text? A while back, I developed theme task cards and flashcards to use with my students. They have really helped.
The set of theme task cards is at two different reading level ranges for easy differentiation and cover many of the most common themes in literature. The document also includes theme flash cards. These can be reviewed with students as students look authentically at the different characteristics of books that have the same theme.
