Teaching Multiplication

A deep understanding of the meaning of multiplication is necessary for comprehending word problems. I enjoy teaching multiplication in a hands-on way using blocks or other manipulatives.  Then, I progress to the visual form of what multiplication means.

Above is a wall chart that I created when I began teaching students about multiplication.
