Fun Ideas For Using Clocks to Assess Math Concepts

As this new school year gets underway, you may be looking for new and creative ways to teach a variety of topics and assess understanding.  Clock assessments are one quick and fun way to do this.  

Instead of writing the numbers on the clock, such as 1, 2, 3, etc. students can write a math problem or equation that has the answer of 1, 2, 3, 4.  It integrates critical thinking, strategic thinking, and math concepts all at the same time.

Begin by tracing a circle from a bowl or something else round.  Cut out two arrows and get one brass fastener.

Next, attach the pieces to create a clock.                  

The last step is to instruct students to think of addition, subtraction, multiplication, decimal, fraction, division, etc. questions that result in the numbers 1, 2, 3, etc. when they are solved.
